It’s Time to Move to the Sunshine State!
When a weather alert headline reads that the temperature is officially colder in Chicago than parts on Mars, you know what time it is: time to move to Florida! With beautiful weather, beaches, and cities, I can’t possibly think of a better place to relocate. In fact, having lived in Florida my entire life I can honestly admit I would never choose to move out of this state, it simply has too much to offer.
Whether you’re a current Florida resident or looking to escape the deep freeze of the Northern states, Tampa should be the city you pack up your bags and move to. Housing, nearby beaches, sports, festivals, food, you name it- the activities to indulge in are endless.
There are so many reasons I am proud to be a Floridian, and more specifically, a resident of Tampa. If you’re finally ready to escape the tundra and make the leap over to the Sunshine State here are 5 reasons (in no order) you should get excited to call Tampa Bay your home too:
1. Major League Sports Teams
If you live, eat and breath sports, this is the place you should call home. Tampa is home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Tampa Bay Lightning, AND the Tampa Bay Rays. What more could you ask for?! There is no room for boredom on a weeknight when you can pack up the car with family or friends and head to a local game. With Sundays reserved for cheering on a Buc’s games, you always have a reason to look forward to the weekend. Plus, a city so passionate about its sports teams means there is normally a pretty good excuse to host watch parties or get togethers to celebrate the action. Tampa’s selection of major league sports provides excitement, entertainment, and is a great way to make unforgettable memories with those you love.
Tampa offers some of the most beautiful housing units in Florida. If you’re on the search for luxury living, moving your family of 8 into a bigger space, or just downsizing, you are guaranteed to find your dream home in Tampa. Neighborhoods like Harbour Island offer walkability to downtown events and attractions while just northeast you have Ybor City, the only neighborhood on Florida’s west coast recognized as a National Historic Landmark District. Maybe you’ve always dreamed of moving into a bungalow? Hyde Park might be your place. Close to downtown and the water, Hyde Park, like the other neighborhoods mentioned provides shopping, dining, and unbeatable entertainment.
3. Activities & Events
There is always a way to stay busy when living in Tampa. Festivals are frequent here in Tampa, as we host the Tampa Riverfest and, for those trying to escape the kids for the day, the Tampa Bay Margarita Festival. My personal favorite festival is the Parade of the Pirates, formally known as Gasparilla. If a day of bead throwing, dressing up, music, and art doesn’t interest you then consider taking a group of friends over to Busch Gardens to delight in a day of theme park thrills. Get your shop on at the International Plaza where you’ll find over 200 shopping and dining choices, or experience a day with the kids at Tampa Lowry Park Zoo. If your passion lies in the arts, Tampa has a handful of must-see museums, some including the Tampa Bay History Center, Henry B. Plant Museum and for the younger crowd, the Glazer Children’s Museum. Whoever you choose to spend your days with in Tampa, there is one thing I know for certain- you will never run out of things to do.
4. Food & Drink
You may not realize the value of good food until you move to Tampa. Fine dining or cheap eats, Tampa provides an overwhelming amount of dining options to explore on a night out on the town or on your lunch break. Speaking of a night out on the town, you won’t want to miss out on a drink at some of the best bars in the area including The Patio, The Hub, Hattricks or one of our newest waterfront spots, Remedy. For the morning after your evening out, make sure you wake up early enough to grab breakfast and a coffee at one of my favorite spots, the Oxford Exchange, before walking around their shop and bookstore. For lunch reward yourself by heading to the Green Lemon where the Mexican food and margaritas are to die for. Let’s face it, food brings people together and exploring your local dining options is a great way to stay social. After all, a wise man once said, “There is no love sincerer than the love of food.”
5. Water Access
If you love the being by the water as much as me, then you’ve scored big with Tampa Bay. You get the best of both worlds by having access to city life as well as numerous beaches near the city. Spend the day soaking up the Florida sun at St. Pete Beach, Clearwater Beach, Redington Shores, Indian Rocks Beach, or Treasure Island. Get a group of friends together to go sailing at Davis Island or hop on a water ferry with your significant other to savor a sunset together. With so many water and boating activities to enjoy doesn’t getting away from the cold sound that much better?
As you can plainly see, there are so many reasons to fall in love with Tampa Bay, Florida. The number of restaurants, shops and housing units are growing exponentially giving interested buyers and current residents more job opportunities, new places to call home and an exciting life to pursue.
Make the move and come enjoy the Florida sunshine with us!
